TV: The Parent Trap

*I combine shows and movies into the “TV” category because they’re not very different to me, and after all, technically you watch both formats on a “television” of some sort.

When you’re a self-proclaimed film enthusiast, you get asked a lot about your favorite movies. It took me a while, and a bit of trial and error, but these days I claim two favorites that I believe embody my heart and soul: The Lion King and The Parent Trap.

As a kid, while every other girl was fawning over Hilary Duff, I was a quiet Lindsay Lohan fan. To this day, I personally think she’s the better actress and her filmography, however short, epitomizes the 2000s of her time and are such a joy to watch. When was the last time you followed an actress and her filmography?

Nancy Meyers at her finest. What I love about directors like Nancy Meyers is that she takes mundane characters and storylines and adds a dash of light-hearted drama and class. Her movies commonly have a sophisticated color palette. The characters may seem boring and mundane to the naked eye, but will eventually win you over with their charm.

We can all take cues from the late Natasha Richardson on her posh neutrals and chic mannerisms. Such a class act, she was! She and Princess Diana could’ve been long lost sisters.

Back in the day, Meredith used to scare me, but watching her now, I can’t help but laugh at how fantastic of a villain she was. A 26 year old trying to score an older, wealthy man, and she almost succeeded! I also love the juxtaposition between Elizabeth and Meredith, whoever did the casting was a genius. You can see Nick Parker had a type.

A mini-tribute to Elizabeth James’s posh looks in the film. I will forever be trying to find my own LBD that will match up to the gorgeous one she wore.

This movie also has a special place in my heart because as a child, it introduced me to several things: summer camps, poker, vineyards, camping trips, and San Franciscan hotels. Now, the question is, where do I find a yellow duffel bag?
